Canada Carbon Rebate 2025: Provincial Payment Dates And Full Schedule

The Canada Carbon Rebate (CCR), which was once the Climate Action Incentive Payment, gave households tax-free credits on a quarterly basis in the provinces that are part of the federal carbon pricing system. It refunded money to people in provinces that lack their own carbon pricing systems.

Location-Specific Rebate Benefits

Rebate payments were different depending on the location, the size of the household and whether the household was living in a rural area:

  • First Adult: $380 in New Brunswick and $900 in Alberta on an annual basis. Extra 20% payment while living in rural areas.
  • Second Adult: Starting at $190 in New Brunswick and going up to $450 in Alberta, with rural supplements added. Generally half the first adult’s amounts.
  • Each Child Under 19: $95 in New Brunswick to $225 in Alberta with an extra 20% payment to rural families.

For instance, a family of four as residents of rural Saskatchewan could earn $1,804.80 per year when compared to $1,504 in urban areas.

Rebate Payment Schedule Each Quarter

Rebate payments were made four times a year in April, July, October, and January, helping to mitigate the impact of federal fuel price increases.

Rural Top-Up: Note On The Usage

The 20% rural top-up was introduced as an incentive for households in rural areas that had high energy consumption and low access to clean transport. This top-up was provided automatically to residents of Prince Edward Island, but others had to claim this by filling out a box on their tax forms.

Final Rebate Notice (April 2025)

Canada ended the federal fuel charge on 15 March 2025, therefore bringing the CCR program to an end. The final rebate was issued on 22 April 2025, but required the filing of the 2024 income tax return, which was due on 2 April. Those who filed late were still paid, but only after being reassessed.
