$3,500 OAS One-Time Payment September 2025: Check Eligibility & Dates

An article published recently says that the federal government and CRA will issue a $3,500 one-time Old Age Security (OAS) payment to all Canadians 65 and older in September 2025. The article says that seniors would receive the amount automatically regardless of their work status, provided they completed the required paperwork. However, there is no basis to this claim and neither the government nor CRA has made any statement supporting it. As always, readers should rely on official government sources such as Canada.ca for accurate information.

What The Rumor Says About Eligibility

The rumor states that eligibility would cover two groups:

  • Canadians 65 years and older who have lived in Canada for 10 years after age 18.
  • Non-residents aged 65 and older who have lived in Canada for 20 years after age 18.
  • Seniors would also have to submit supposed two documents of employment to qualify.

No Record Of Accepted OAS Payments

No one-time OAS payment has been approved or announced by either the Federal Government or the CRA. Monthly benefits continue to be paid on a regular basis and are updated quarterly based on the CPI, with no one-time lump sum payments.

How OAS Payments Function In Practice

OAS payments are disbursed monthly, and every quarter, in January, April, July, and October, such payments are updated to reflect inflation as measured by the CPI. For the period of July to September 2025, the payment increased by 1.0%, which was associated with a 2.3% increase over that year.

The maximum monthly OAS benefit amounts are approximately $734.95 for individuals aged 65 to 74 (with income below ~$148,541), and $808.45 for those aged 75 and above.
